WMVP008 - Blonde Ambition by Fans Of Jimmy Century

Artist: Fans Of Jimmy Century
Track: Blonde Ambition
Director: Ted Loebe

What do you get when you cross a Frech maid, a belly dancer and some murderous chefs? This fantastic home-made video by San Francisco electronica outfit Fans Of Jimmy Century.

Sometimes it's enough just to show up at someones apartment and make a video. Especially when there is an actual plot involved. It's just an excellent video made by a group of friends having fun. Alicia, the singer in the band and part-time French maid, thought the most appropriate person to credit as the director was Ted Loebe, who appears in the video as Major Mean.

This video was actually banned by AOL video for a scene in which there is 'a girl touching her insides'. The scene in question is not that at all. She's actually doing the opposite and protecting her modesty. Hey, controversy never hurt anyone.

WMVP007 - BrainBrainBrain by Effektor!

Artist: Effektor!
Track: BrainBrainBrain
Directors: Effektor!

As I said back on Episode #2 (the infamous 'lego porn' video), stop-motion animation is a time consuming but effective way of creating an interesting and cheap video.

Effektor! from Denver have made a video that takes various household objects, including the band themselves, and animates them to do weird and crazy things. A very good strategy for a weird and crazy song. A simple, quality video made by non-professionals.

WMVP006 - Not My Girl by Ejectorseat

Artist: Ejectorseat
Track: Not My Girl
Director: Jon Swallowe (Clockwork Lime)

Take a really simple idea, mix in a little imagination and an excellent editing job and you have this weeks video. Ejectorseat are a band from Derby in England and their friend Jon came up with the concept for this video. Each member of the band was seperated from his compatriots and performed their part of the song as an individual. Each performance was recorded using a different method and it creates a whirlwind of interesting visuals that flash all over the screen that has been seperated into 6 different sections. It's the type of video you can watch many times and get a different experience each time. It's simple, interesting and brilliant.

WMVP005 - Wrong Time by All Crazy

Artist: All Crazy
Track: Wrong Time
Director: Larry Langton

One of my favourite 'mainstream' videos of the last few years was 'Just A Day' by Feeder. It had the incredibly simple concept of having fans of the band record themselves singing along to the track in their bedrooms. They basically got their fans to do the video for them. It's the kind of idea where you think 'Why hasn't anyone done that before?' Well now we have another entry to use that simple concept.

All Crazy are a hip-hop/rock band from Philadelphia and not being as big a band as Feeder they got their friends and family to contribute to their debut music video instead of the public at large. I'm not sure if the director, Larry Langton, has ever seen the Feeder video, but it doesn't really matter. If he has then he deserves kudos for 'stealing' such a fine idea, and if he hasn't he deserves kudos for independently coming up with a cheap, fun and entertaining video.
