WMVP055 - In The City by Infidelity

Artist: Infidelity
Track: In The City
Director: Haris Pallas

A music video that works just as well as a short film this week.

Director Haris Pallas takes Infidelity onto the late night streets of their home town of Kilkis, Greece. There they take the personas of different people who might be on the streets late at night. All we really see is a lot of people walking, but we are given enough hints that we can fill in the gaps and start giving motivations and stories to these people.

It's a rather poetic, slightly ominous video that really fits the song.

WMVP054 - This Nightmare by un:armed

Artist: un:armed
Track: This Nightmare
Director: Steve Nahaj

This weeks video is an unsettling, slightly surreal effort that hints at dark themes.

For the video for Los Angeles band un:armed's track This Nightmare, director Steve Nahaj creates a disturbing vision that hints at suicide using only red wool. It's a bizarre idea, but somehow it really works. It's not a video that is instantly understandable, but works really well as a dark, visual poem.

WMVP053 - Unus by Thisorder

Artist: Thisorder
Track: Unus
Director: Marco Bizzarro

WARNING: Both embedded videos and the podcast are uncensored and NSFW

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Jonas Akerlund should be very flattered by this weeks video.

Italian band Thisorder and director Marco Bizzarro have put together a video for the track Unus that is clearly an homage to Akerlund's 1997 video for 'Smack My Bitch Up' by The Prodigy.

Both videos are a POV explorations of reprehensible nights out. While Akerlund and The Prodigy go for a general bad behaviour night with a strong twist, Bizzarro and Thisorder follow a pimp on his nightly business with a much more subtle and clever twist. There is also some excellent animation work in the Thisorder video that adda an extra layer of cool.

Overall it's a very well executed video that stands on it's own merits as well as being a reverent updating of The Prodigy's video.

WMVP052 - Break Me by Alexx Calise

Artist: Alexx Calise
Track: Break Me
Director: Ricardo Moreno

This weeks video is slightly unsettling, but very effective. Los Angeles singer Alexx Calise and director Ricardo Moreno provide a video that is partly a performance video and partly a kind of dark fairytale involving Alexx playing the part of a life-size doll. It's an effective, well shot video that really reminds me of the video to 'Blue Orchid' by The White Stripes, directed by Floria Sigismondi.

This video has the same doll-like protagonist and gothic tone as The White Stripes one. A great piece of work that has a good creation of atmosphere.
