WMVP076 - Damn That River by The Evidence
Artist: The Evidence
Track: Damn That River
Director: Douglas Thomson
This weeks video is an oft-told tale of female disenfranchisement in the 50s.
Director Douglas Thomson takes this premise and makes it a darkly humorous hyper-real tale. As a 50s housewife struggles against her uncaring husband she fantasises about various ways to kill him. There is a distinct change in grading between the murder fantasies and reality, which highlights the 'golden-age' mentality of this scenario. These sections are inter-cut with The Evidence themselves playing the track dressed in a very clean cut 50s style. It's vaguely reminiscent of the video for In Bloom by Nirvana directed by Kevin Kerslake.
A beautifully shot, beautifully structured piece of film-making.

Now available is an HD feed for this podcast. 1280x720 MP4's suitable for playing on iPad's and other tablet devices. The HD feed is HERE and hopefully it will be added to the iTunes store soon.
See you next week for another great music video.

WMVP075 - Can We Go Wrong by Hesta Prynn
Artist: Hesta Prynn
Track: Can We Go Wrong
Director: Randy Scott Slavin
Another stop-motion video using humans this week.
Director Randy Scott Slavin took Hesta Prynn to a park in New York and then took over 13k still photographs to animate together. He makes her 'skate' and float around the park in a really fun way. As well these segments there are also appearances by an old Simon game and a reference to Missile Command.

WMVP074 - The Emancipation by Tricil
Artist: Tricil
Track: The Emancipation
Directors: Franck Trebillac & Marc Broussely
This weeks video has the feel of a distorted music box.
Dancer and industrial band frontwoman Miss Maleficent Martini takes the role of a ballet dancer in a bizarre old-fashioned surrounding. She is not your typical ballerina and this is not your typical ballet music. Tricil is a dubstep artist and his jagged style of music is matched by the jagged, yet still beautiful, movements of Miss Martini.
Adding to the music box feel, directors Trebillac & Broussely use kaleidoscope type effects to increase the feel of movement on a small scale. These kaleidoscope reflections are reminiscent of videos by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jet, but here they are used perfectly to fit with the style of track.
